Busy, Busy, Busy (again)

Yeah I know it’s been ages (3 months or so) since I last updated this blog but I have been busy. Between work and christmas and new year I have been flat out working on websites., oh, and alot of video chats on ooVoo. The first was a total makeover on my son’s Karate Dojo website (view it here) and also a major makeover on my main website, Ratpack’s Lair.

Although not quite finished it is online. I have also launched a Social Network with Ratpack’s Lair so drop by and have a look.

My Wi-Fi works :)

After trying to set up my wi-fi around 12 months ago with no success, I decided to give it another go today. Now connecting a wi-fi router to an existing modem/router can be tricky. Somehow I managed to get it all up and running and I didn’t bridge the modem/router either, so now I have 2 PC’s hard wired to the modem router with a spare port and 1 PC hard wired to the wi-fi router with 3 more spare ports plus the wi-fi.

I love the fact that I am no longer restricted to using my Macbook at my desk. Now I might go and see if my PSP and sons Wii will connect…lol

Catching up with old friends

Now that Friends Reunited have opened everything up for free, I have been able to make contact with old school friends that I haven’t seen for 29 years…WOW….makes me feel old. Even managed to catch up with 2 of them on MSN last night.

Macbook….I got one :)

I am posting this from my brand new 2.4ghz Macbook. I love it! The first thing I did was of course download ooVoo for Mac, works great but I wish the iSight camera had it’s own light (maybe I am just being picky). iLife ‘08 software blows me away. I am going to have some fun trying it all.

NeoOffice is now installed, everything appears to work great so far and it’s way better than paying for the Mac version of Microsoft Office….lol.

I haven’t yet got used to having no backspace key and the delete button working backwards compared to a Windows PC but appart from that I love my new Macbook. I will be posting more about it after I have used it for a while.

Remember: An Apple a day keeps those Windows away  :)

Amusing video chat with Aussie Podacasters

This was meant to be posted earlier but I have been busy. I was invited into an ooVoo video chat by Jason (TechAU video podcast) and Rob (TheAussieGeek from Ustream). They were celebrating the filming of another show and had kicked on with the after party. We were also joined by Ben (Tech Wired Australia podcast) Nailz and Quarrion (both huge ooVoo users).  Jason after having a drink or 6 and was playing Grid on the Xbox 360, we chatted about the release of iPhones in Australia and the benifits of using ooVoo (maybe a video podcast is on the way entirely done using ooVoo….stay tuned) all I can say is these guys are crazy….lol !!!

Macbook…..I want one

I have been checking websites lately looking at Apple Macbook’s. Today I went and had a play and I want one real bad. They are amazing units loaded with plenty of useful software out of the box. Fingers crossed I may purchase one next week. :)

It worked…..Yeah

My second attempt at installing Ubuntu worked. Looks like I did need the 64bit .iso after all. The dual boot install was extremly fast using the Wubi installer. (I can now un-install Ubuntu using Windows Add/Remove if needed.)

My first iimpressions of the latest version of Ubuntu, WOW, everything works so far although I haven’t tried my Logitech Webcam yet. Everything is so much faster than Windows and all updates and Firefox plugins have been installed without any problems.

Now if only ooVoo made a Linux version of their excellent video chat software……Ho, Hum

Format time

I like to format my PC every year (unless something drastic happens beforehand) so today was format time. I hate doing them, making sure I have backed everything up and the thought of putting all my programs etc back on, there goes the best part of 4 hours.

I decided to set up a dual boot with XP and Ubuntu. Easy, grab a copy of Ubuntu and away we go. Wrong! looks like I used a faulty CD, had a corrupt .iso file or maybe the 32bit version doesn’t like my Pentium D 3.2….Hmmm.

I have XP all up and running and now I’m downloading the 64bit .iso and keeping my fingers crossed. Another post will follow shortly, I hope it will contain good news about my Linux install.

Social Networking – Oh the pain

I am totally over all Social Networking sites right now. When is there going to be a decent Social Network site where you can not only keep in contact with friends and family , but also meet new people without all the vampire, hot or not etc apps that adorne the sites?

Yes I have the option to not install these apps but what I think is needed is a ‘grown up’ if you like social network site.  Most of the current network sites are catering for the teen, way too much ‘Bling’.

If anyone knows of a decent Social Network please let me know.

Random Ramblings

So what has happened online this week? Well Philippe the CEO at ooVoo accepted me as a friend on Facebook (so I added him on ooVoo as well.) I have also just signed up on Shoutoo, it’s similar to Twitter so I’m waiting to see how it goes. Also just downloaded and watched the TechAU podcast and while making this entry I’m having my usual ooVoo video chat.

Did I mention Pmog? (Click the link to find out what it is all about)No, well I have been doing a few missions this week and it looks like I have made a couple of enemies. They keep leaving mines on my Pmog page and blowing me up…..ouch.
